"I have attended Jan's Yoga classes for several years and am always impresed at how every class is different - I can come away refreshed and energised or relaxed and calm, but always in a 'better place' than when I arrived.Jan is expert at encouraging each and every student to take what they need from the class, and to work at their own level.I look forward to the class as I know what tremendous benefit I get from attending.More recently the Somatic exercises have added a new dimension to the class which is really enjoyable" - Anne, Bottesford
"After suffering back pain for some years I was gradually giving up the exercise I was able to do. Along came Jan and introduced me to somatics which has enabled me to carry on. Everyone should be open minded and give it a go - you won't be disappointed" - Wendy, Whatton
I went for a somatic session with an open mind after suffering from sciatica . I found it to be a very rewarding experience after one session it really helped ease the pain and while the session was lengthy it was also very relaxin. I went on to have three sessions in total, Jan gave me exercises to do at home which has helped me recover. All in all an excellent experience to get to recovery quickly - Linda, Grantham
- Rosemary, Colston Bassett

Hi I'm Jan Cumming. I am a Certified Clinical Somatic Educator and Yoga Practitioner based in Aslockton, Notts
I started practising Yoga in 1991 as a means to combat a very stressful job in the Computer Industry - it worked - not only calming my mind but also releasing my body.
I did my initial Teacher Training with the British Wheel of Yoga, qualifying in 2003 and then went onto do a BWY Accredited additional teacher training course in the tradition of Krishnamacharya, graduating in 2008. This included a two week intensive in Chennai, India at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, where I was lucky enough to be taught by some inspiring teachers including TKV Desikachar himself.
I have been inspired by the teaching of Krishnamacharya and his son TKV Desikachar for many years and have had the opportunity to work with many wonderful teachers who continue to influence my teaching. I am a teacher member of both the Association of Yoga Studies (aYs) and The Society of Yoga Practitioners (TSYP). I have also completed a Vedavalli Chanting Foundation course and a Yoga for Children course.
In December 2017 I qualified as a Clinical Somatic Educator (aka Hanna Somatic Education) after three years training with Martha Peterson and Laura Gates. In 2014 I trained as a Somatic Movement coach with Martha Peterson.
Somatic movement has many similarities with Yoga; working with the whole person, working with the breath and to the comfort level of the individual. For me Somatics was the missing part of the puzzle, allowing me to free long term muscle stiffness, deepening my Yoga experience and allowing my body to feel free and fluid. Working with a somatic approach to my Yoga and yogic approach to my Somatics I hope to allow people to find their own path to pain free, fluid movement. Freedom from within.
In my spare time I love to be outside either in my garden or out walking. If I can be near the sea I am really happy, with a camera in my hand, even better. I enjoy a good book or film and I am a keen cook. I also write poetry - when I have some creative time.
